the sapling and the tree
I see myself through your eyes
A vivid picture comes to mind
Someone you love so much
And hate so passionately.
Two trees grown with love
Your weeds of secret truths
Swarm at my trunk, to swallow me
Connecting us still, this time
With stubbornness, hidden feelings
Lack of compassion, possessiveness
and jealousy.
Here in your shadow I quake
Knowing your leaves drown out the sun
Keeping my blossoms from blooming
Unable to praise the tangible light.
Your branches burden mine
Yet in no way do I complain
Getting nourishment, water, and light
Only when you're stricken with mercy
Allowing minute speckles of light to seep through
Towering over me, a strong young sapling
While I am frail and weak
As if winter has come in summer's heat
Claiming my soul swiftly
My love for you, though painfully unhealthy
Remains ever strong
As I hold on each day praying
You'll finally free the sun.
